The Municipality of Gagliano Aterno has offered to host and support the event, together with the agri-tourism “La Porta dei Parchi” of Anversa degli Abruzzi, known for its active role in innovating sheep farming and revitalizing the Abruzzi territory, and for its relevant impact on pastoralism in general. The workshop, organized by CNR, Appia Network, UNIVPM, CIHEAM Zaragoza, will be attended by representatives of the project partners, and experts from Croatia, France, Greece, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey and, of course, a large Italian delegation from various research organizations, institutions and, above all, livestock farmers, many of them young and members of the Appia Network for the Defense of Italian Pastoralism.
They will discuss about the CAP, the schools of pastoralism in Italy and Europe, future scenarios of pastoral production and marketing, the relationship between pastoral activity and the environment, product enhancement and labeling, but also about virtual fencing and new technologies at the service of pastoralism, and the conditions necessary to give the sector a chance to overcome the coming generational turnover.
It will be a great opportunity for the two host areas and for the whole Abruzzo region, where pastoralism is an ancient and deeply rooted activity, to discuss with national and international experts, local and regional institutions, researchers and pastoralists the general situation of pastoralism, in Italy and in the Mediterranean countries, addressing the future scenarios of this traditional sector, its potential for contributing to the social and economic future of the region.
