The meeting was organized by INRAE, ODARC and the French Group of Ethnology on Goats (GEC) as the annual meeting of this group. This group published a book on the goat activities in the several French regions and the first part of the meeting was dedicated to a presentation and a debate on the several chapters of the books. Then, the meeting discussed the pastoral challenges of the goat sector in the Mediterranean with a presentation of the goat activities and innovations in Corsica (2 presentations), in Sardinia (2 presentations) and in Morocco (1 presentation) with connection to the Pastinnova approach.
The meeting was followed by a field visit to local goat farms and the breeding Centre of the local Corsican breed. During the visits, the breeders expressed their main difficulties and objectives.
Concerning the breeding Centre, the technicians explained how the breeding is organized and the need to increase the number of participating farmers involved. The participants also had many exchanges during the Regional Farm Made Fair and with the jury of the farm cheese contest.
Outcome | Deliverables.
A diagnosis of the situation of the pastoral goat sector and the levers for its future development has been proposed and discussed. These main points will be reported and this meeting is the first step of the regional Corsican LL of the pastoral goat IBM with a likely extension in Sardinia.
